Gor Mahia have signed teenage sensation Benson Omalla Ochieng’ from Western Stima to bolster their campaign in this season. Omalla, 17, who is still a student at Kisumu Day Secondary school penned down a five-year deal.
The Harambee Stars Under 20 striker had a stellar stint with the Millers last season bagging eight goals in just 11 appearances.
Omalla, who has had a stellar stint with Chemelil, netting 8 goals in just appearances for the Millers has also signed for the Green Army. The teenager had an outstanding performance last campaign as he was named the Kenyan Premier League Player of the Month for December.
The form four student remarked that they are still trying to find a solution to how he can balance studies with playing for K’Ogalo.
He had an easy time playing for Western Stima because the club has its base in the lake side city and hosts its matches at Moi Stadium which is a short distance from Kisumu Day High School.
“It is true Gor Mahia has approached me and I have agreed to play for them. Since the team is based in Nairobi, we are talking about scheduling my training sessions and being part of the matchday squad so that I don’t interfere with my studies,” said Omalla.
It could, however, still work for him since K’Ogalo is often keen on hosting its home games at the Kisumu facility due to high revenue from gate collections.
Among the teams that were also chasing his signature are KCB, AFC Leopards, and Wazito. In a previous interview with Goal.com, he expressed interest in playing for AFC Leopards due to their practice of giving young players a chance to show their exploits. He hopes to play for Manchester United in the future.
The club has now signed seven players and coach Steven Polack confirmed that they are looking to sign four more.
The former Manyatta United striker has been in sparkling form for Stima this season, netting nine league goals before the season was prematurely halted due to coronavirus.
He became the youngest player to win the KPL Player of the Month Award when he was crowned the best for the month of December 2019.
The Green Army also signed Kenyatta University graduate and Western Stima goalkeeper Samuel Njau. Njau is an ex Ligi Ndogo, Nairobi Stima, and Sony Sugar custodian.
Njau will now fight for the position in between the post with Boniface Oluoch and their other new signing Levis Opiyo for the number one spot.
Njau signed a three-year deal while Omalla a five-year deal.
