Online retailer Jumia is set to splash Black Friday deals throughout the month of November, angling to have twice as large sales as last year.
During the period, the e-commerce platform expects four million Kenyans to log onto the Jumia platform ostensibly for Black Friday to secure deals.
To further entrench the use of their application, they will be rewarding customers with deals specifically originating from it.
“We want to reward our most loyal customers with our best deals. This is why we are launching App-Only-Deals this Black Friday. Customers can find the best deals, and benefit from faster shopping & lower data costs on our app”, said Jumia MD, Sam Chappatte.
According to the company, Jumia’s sales originating in the App has increased to three for every ten purchases made the last year, showing growing loyalty to the platform. Desktop traffic share (from laptops) has dropped to 28 per cent, reflecting the high share of Kenyans accessing the internet through smartphones (Kenya is the global leader in mobile internet).
A recent study by Black Friday Global revealed that Kenyans will spend an average of sh7,500 during Black Friday. The report said that cloths, electronics and shoes are on shoppers’ minds when considering the shopping discounts.
Customers wanting to access dozens of discount vouchers, flash sales and treasure hunts are encouraged to download the Jumia App well in advance of the campaign. For the laptop-lovers, they will still be able to access deals of up to 70 per cent off, on over 3 million products.
To avoid disappointment this Black Friday, customers are advised to:
- Download the Jumia App to access app-only deals and vouchers
- Visit Jumia site daily at 9am check out the deals of the day. Especially during the biggest days – each Friday of November!
- Pay Jumia a visit Jumia’s offline stores in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru & Kisumu for any enquiries and get a free voucher

The one month event will run from 2nd – 30th November, with the tagline: Every Friday is Black Friday this November!
