Seasoned banker Andrew Wambari Kairu has taken over as KCB Group Chairman.
He takes has been with the bank since 2016 as an Independent Non-Executive Director. According to a statement published in local dailies, he has been instrumental in the continued transformation of KCB Group and its entities.
He has vast experience in corporate governance, commercial and retail banking among others. “He has outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills from managing key senior level stakeholder relationships and driving performance against international best practices in risk management, corporate governance and compliance frameworks”, read the statement.
Andrew Kairu has previously worked at Commercial Bank of Africa, Standard Chartered Bank and Citibank.
He is a member of the Audit Committee of Commonwealth Secretariat, London.
The statement added that his core competences are in strategic business planning, profit and loss accountability, risk management, performance and change management, process and policy development and stakeholder management.
Mr. Kairu holds a Bachelors of Commerce Degree from the University of Nairobi, an Executive Development qualification from Wharton Business School and Corporate Governance Certification on Board’s Effectiveness from Harvard Business School.
He takes over from Mr. Ngeny Biwott who has chaired the Group Board since 2013.
