Kenyans can now access information about the government’s development activities at the click of a button; this after President Uhuru Kenyatta launched a public information portal yesterday at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC)
Dubbed President’s Delivery Unit portal, the website contains details of all development activities, costs, timelines and status.
Apart from information already uploaded on the site, one can also post a query on the site and get feedback within 24-48 hours.
Speaking while unveiling this portal, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that it will help cut red tape bureaucracy in dissemination of government information to citizens, saving time while fostering transparency
‘’The portal will provide transparency through an electronic central depository for the public to access frequent and request for information as well as documentation,’’ said the president
To access the portal, citizens can log into www.delivery.go.ke
Apart from the website, the portal has diverse social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Whatsapp, allowing citizens to engage with the government in real time.
Some of featured projects include standard gauge railway, access to electricity, ease of doing business, roads construction and the information communication technology infrastructure
Although the portal has been touted as transparent, critics are viewing it as tool to sanitize Jubilee administration a head of August general election
A critic on twitter for instance wondered how self developed and launched content can pass as transparent
‘’How fair and transparent is exam set, done and marked by a student?’’
Jubilee administration has been accused by opposition parties for jumping on development activities initiated by the former regime led by Mwai Kibaki and the current opposition chief Raila Odinga
