Kilimall has revolutionized online shopping in Kenya, thanks to its recent partnership with Safaricom that is allowing customers to purchase items using Bonga points.
If a mobile phone is going for Sh5500 yet you have only Sh5400, the Bonga Popote plan allows you to pay the balance using Bonga points.
In this case, you only need to redeem 1000 Bonga points to pay for the remaining Sh100
The partnership between the online shopping mall and the Telco is yet another milestone in the country’s fast growing e-commerce sector which was estimated to be Sh4.3 billion in 2014.
A recent survey by PayPal shows that 60 per cent of internet users in Kenya shop online, ranking the country third after South Africa and Nigeria in the continent.
Analysts predict a brighter future for e-commerce in Kenya, thanks to the country’s high internet penetration.
There are at least 35.5 million internet users in Kenya, representing an internet penetration of 82.6 per cent, the highest in East Africa.
Welcoming this partnership, Kilimall Managing Director Robin Xie said that it will offer customers another convenient way to pay for their products while saving money.
“It is a big brand to work with in Kenya and we are happy it is supporting the growing e-commerce industry in Kenya. Ultimately, it is the customers who benefit, which is great.”
In order to pay for goods using Bonga points, a customer shopping on Kilimall need to check his balance by simply dialing *124#
Lipa na Bonga Points uses the Lipa na M-Pesa system. All the customer has to do is dial *126#, select “Lipa na Bonga Points” and follow the prompts.
