Young people in Thika turn out in large numbers for Blaze Youth Symposium

Over 9,000 young people from Thika and its environs turned up for the BLAZE mentorship symposium held at the Thika Technical Training Institute in Thika Town.

The full day session started at 9am with plenary sessions led by mentors from different areas of interest; agri-business, entrepreneurship, music, media, technology, finance, fashion and career building.

The afternoon session involved an all-encompassing gathering with talks given by young people to their fellow youth on career decisions and using their passions to make a living.

Among the key entrepreneurs that mentored the youth aged 26 years and below included Ahmed Abdi – Amana Insurance Brokers CEO, Erick Muthomi – CEO of Stawi Foods, Mike Muthiga – CEO of Fatboy Productions and Kaka Empire Founder and renowned rapper King Kaka.

This was the second summit after the first one was held in Eldoret and saw an attendance of 7,000 from Uasin Gishu and surrounding areas.

The third edition of the summit will be held this Friday in Nakuru at Afraha Stadium. BLAZE is a sub-brand of Safaricom and is the first platform of its kind in the East and Central African market to be co-created with the youth, for the youth.
