Huawei Technologies has partnered with mobile phone retailer FoneXpress to help increase its coverage and market share in Kenya.
The deal is aimed at expanding Huawei’s retail and re-seller businesses to cover Kenya’s 47 counties, even as the competition for the middle level phone market hots up.
The General Manager, Huawei Devices Kenya Mark Hemaobin said the company is targeting middle level and premium customers with hopes that its market share will increase countrywide.
“We are keen on quality and affordable smartphones. We focus on meeting our business goals and increasing our local smartphone market share from the current 13 to over 25 per cent this year, partnerships like this will be key for us,” he said.
As part of the deal, Huawei devices will be selling in all FoneXpress in Nakumatt, as well as Tuscom in Tuskys, Naivakom in Naivas, and PhoneLink in major shopping malls and retail outlets across the country.
FoneXpress Service Director, Brenda Okwiri said the partnership will enable the company to bring Huawei devices to its customers in the region, as yet another choice in the company’s portfolio of International Brands in a vibrant mobile device industry.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to offer customers a wider variety of original smartphone brands, and serves as an endorsement of the Huawei brand and product range. We will work closely with the Huawei team to offer our customers’ value-for-money and essential after-sales support that will also be mirrored on the back-end as a dedicated newly appointed Authorized Service Centre,” she said.
Currently, Huawei Device Kenya is selling devices through business to business partners like Safaricom, Airtel and Orange. The firm also opened a new flagship shop at Garden City Mall and will be looking to set up additional shops in key towns in Kenya this year.
The new business strategy will also see the company sign up more re-sellers and retail partners throughout the country as the firm looks to ensure that Huawei devices are readily available to existing and potential customers.
