Kenya is a price sensitive market, meaning the consumers are less likely willing to spend extra shillings on a similar phone. Smartphones are getting more affordable and come with decent specs, thereby becoming a hit. Phones like the Huawei Ideos, Samsung Galaxy Pocket and the Lumia 520 were very well priced and with good specs and did well in the Kenyan in terms of sales.
Infinix has launched a contender in the entry level smartphone segment in order to try and gain a foothold in the market. They call it the Infinix Hot X507. I managed to acquire one and these are my thoughts on it.
Operating system
The Hot X507 comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It comes pre-installed with apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, Swiftkey, Jumia Online shopping and games like Assassin’s Creed and Danger Dash.
RAM, memory and processor
The phone has 1GB RAM, 16GB of memory and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor.
The phone’s processor and RAM complement each other perfectly. Hence, the device runs smoothly without a snag even when multitasking. The 16GB memory is enough to accommodate apps, files and music. The memory is also expandable up to 32GB via microSD.
Screen
The phone has with a 5.0 inch (480 x 854 pixels) touchscreen.
The screen size and resolution is decent and is especially ideal for reading. The phone is well back lit and it helps that its visible even outdoors in the sun.
Camera
The phone’s back camera is 5 megapixels (2592 x 1944-pixels) and the front camera is 2 megapixels.
The back camera has a flash and takes very nice pictures for Instagram. The front camera is also not half bad and the selfie generation will love it.
Battery

The phone comes with a 2000mAh Li-Ion battery. The battery life is fairly good and the battery can go a whole day with heavy use and up to 2 days with minimal use.
Build and design
The phone has a curvy design which fits very well in the hand. The phone is available in several colours and the back cover is replaceable.
Price and availability
The phone is available at sh6,999 on Jumia. However, one has to pre-order the phone and then wait for 21 days.
Warranty and support
The phone comes with 1year warranty. Support and service is available via Carlcare service centres.
Conclusion
The phone is quite good and at a very affordable price point. Availability however is an issue if one has to wait 21 days for it and Infinix should ensure that there are other channels for the phone’s to be bought. All in all it’s a great phone and I predict that it will do very well in this market.
