Majid Al Futtaim to open Carrefour Market at Village Market

Majid Al Futtaim, the franchise owners of Carrefour in Kenya has signed a deal with the management of Village Market that will see the opening of the first Carrefour Market in Kenya, by the end of the year.

A Carrefour Market store operates with a different format compared to a hypermarket, with a larger focus on stocking a wide range of food items over non-food items. It however stocks small electrical appliances.

Franck Moreau, Country Manager, at Majid Al Futtaim – Retail Kenya said, Carrefour Market is an innovative approach that allows them to serve customers by offering them a store that caters for their everyday shopping needs. “This attests to our commitment to addressing customers’ needs effectively while growing and expanding our presence in Kenya.”

He said they will be embarking on construction work in May where the Carrefour Market will be located, and this will be followed by the installation of equipment and the relevant fit out to suit Carrefour’s international standards. “When open, we assure customers of our sustained commitment to offer an unbeatable shopping experience and great moments for everyone, every day,” said Moreau.

The new store will complement the flagship hypermarket at the Two Rivers Mall, all based along Limuru Road. Its location is to also target high end shoppers of Runda, bulk shoppers and UN complex.

Majid Al Futtaim opened its first Carrefour Market in 2009, specialising in offering fresh produce and local products, an appropriate assortment of non-food products, attractive prices in every aisle, and regular promotions.

Carrefour launched operations in Kenya in 2016 and currently operates five stores located at located at The Hub in Karen, Two Rivers Mall, Thika Road Mall, The Junction and Sarit Centre. Once opened, The Village Market store will be Carrefour’s sixth store in the country, and a significant milestone in the retailers’ growth and expansion plans.

Majid Al Futtaim currently operates over 230 Carrefour stores across 15 markets.
