Kenyan startups invited to participate in worldwide Start.up! Germany event

Kenyan startups have been invited to participate in a 7-day tour to Germany’s startup hotspots in Berlin, Hamburg and the Ruhr area. The six Kenyan startups will be among 46 participating startups from 16 countries.

The aim of the exposure journey is to provide the selected startup entrepreneurs with an opportunity to display their venture and products internationally. They will also learn the current developments in the market, have a glimpse at the German startup scene and a chance to meet potential customers and investors as well as learn how to address the German market.

Highlights of the seven-day programme include visits at Lufthansa Technik Hamburg, SAP Data Space, German Railways mindbox and the international startup summit RuhrSummit.

The tour is organized by a delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK Kenya), in cooperation with the Tech Entrepreneurship Initiative “Make-IT in Africa“ (GIZ), and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK).

Maren Diale-Schellschmidt, Country Director of AHK Kenya said “About 80 applications responded to our open call in August 2017 and six finalists were selected through a pitching competition in front from an international expert jury. We are excited for Kenyan companies to participate in that international event”.

The startups, small and growing businesses, are beyond the market testing phase, which means that they already operate successfully and have a scalable business model with an international approach. They are active in the three fields of interest of this program which are: Energy/ Energy solutions, Internet of Things/ Industry 4.0, and Logistics/ Transport.

Participating Startups are:

  1. Africartrack International (Mobility Solutions)
  2. Flexitech Group Limited (Lay-by Purchase Platform)
  3. Genexe Engineering (Energy-saving industrial cooking stoves)
  4. Mega Gas (Producing fuel and gas from plastic waste)
  5. Micro-cap Holdings (Digital Solutions for milk farmers and micro-lending)
  6. Usalama Group Ltd (Real-time connection victims to respondents)

The exposure trip will begin on 14th October, 2017 and end on 21st October, 2017.

The participants of the trip get exposure to relevant industry players and have the chance to pitch their business ideas to potential investors and business partners.
